WAFL: Peel make a big move

Les Everett with the news that Peel Thunder saw off East Perth at Leederville Oval, shoring up a finals place. Get your WAFL words (and picture) here.

VAFA Section B – Monash Blues v Fitzroy: The battle of midfield or mudfield in perspective

With some beautifully crafted prose, incorporating sentences as long and intricate and grammatically sound as the great Gerald Murnane, King George! III tells the story of The Roys win against Monash Blues at Keith Frearson Oval. The Roys won by two points. But, I ask you this, is there a man alive more alert to the world than KGIII? [See you on Saturday for Roys v Beaumaris at Brunswick Street. – JTH]

The Final Stretch III – At The End of the Road

Nick the Stats Guy hangs them up and goes out (kind of) on top.

Almanac Book Review: Kapunda Football club history

Bernard Whimpress is mightily impressed with the recently-published Kapunda FC history, which celebrates 150 years of footy in the Kapunda district.

Hay, here’s a question?

Glen! has spent some time in Hay recently, and that has him wondering which good sportspeople – especially VFL and AFL footballers – have come from Hay. All suggestions welcome.

1986 – A Year With The Blacks Round 15: Eaton, Cheatin’, Unbeaten (was that Keg?)

Everyone is allowed an off week. Gordon Agars was making a habit of it back in 1986. Here’s his perfunctory assessment of Round 15, including a Keg sighting.

Junior Footy – Youth Girls: Bulleen v Fitzroy

A depleted Roys Youth Girls team were defeated at Bulleen, but their scribe Dave found some positives in the game.

Solving the Case of the Roys Ring-In Premiership Trophy

Mystery solved! The case of the Fitzroy Premiership that wasn’t! Read all about it!

WAFL five still alive

Les Everett’s words (and pictures) from Perth, where four rounds remain in the WAFL home and away season. Can East Fremantle make the top five?

Junior Footy: The Final Stretch II – Going Out On A High

Nick continues his story, this time overcoming a nasty case of nerves to help his team into the finals.

VAFA Section B – Fitzroy v Monash Blues: Another Nail-biter

Phil Hill provides a comprehensive account of a nail-biter against Monash Blues which puts the Roys third on the ladder and Phil in a very good mood. Such a good mood that he put on Mozart’s Requiem full blast as he made his way home along Springvale Road.

1986 – A Year With The Blacks Round 14: Barrietown Revisited

In 2016, we take you back to AUFC’s Round 14 1986, which finds Gordon Agars revisiting some of his finest 1971 work. Starring West Croydon, Kilburn and Rosewater. Plus Robran, Marker, Carman, Swamp Fox, Fritzy and Dexter. Try to keep up.

VAFA – Fitzroy v St Bede’s: Triple J Triple L

This right royal King George! III has a voice all of his own. He writes with a smile. Here’s his report of the day at Brunswick Street. Includes the line: If [Ligris] were reduced to the size of a bullant I’m sure he could kick a miniature football through the wings of fly-by mosquitoes cascading them into the hungry mouth of an air-oscillating hummingbird a yard away. [Love it – JTH]

Junior Footy: Fitzroy Youth Girls v Beverley Hills

Fitzroy Youth Girls were beaten at Victoria Park, but nevertheless remain in unchartered waters – a finals place is already booked.

VAFA – Fitzroy v St. Bede’s: Roys Pacifying Protagonists

After cutting work to catch the second half of the Fitzroy game on the weekend, Steve managed to avoid the cameras only to post about it on the Almanac. Don’t worry, mate, we won’t dob.

VAFA – Fitzroy v St. Bede’s: The Ligris Henderson Procedure

Phil Hill, a great sport, entertained the crew at the Roys lunch, and then helped get the boys home in a tense game against the highly-fancied St Bede’s at Brunswick Street. Although he loves a dental metaphor, he goes with a medical image here. The Roys are coming. [Great game. Great win. – JTH]

The Final Stretch I: Casting Out into the Unknown

Cold hands, potato cakes and muddy grounds. Nick the Stats Guy reflects on his career as a junior footballer.

1986 – A Year With The Blacks Round 13: Give Me Park Terrace

Round 13 1986 was a quiet one for Gordon Agars. He barely made time to toss off this flimsy report, giving far too much prominence to fringe A8 player Darren ‘The Jerk’ Graetz.

VAFA Premier B – Old Brighton v Fitzroy: Go Green? Oh’ Al.

King George! III employs olde and middley English (as you might expect) in telling the timeless tale of a trip to Brighton. There is no reporter like King George!

Almanac Local Footy: Mullewa v Railways

Peter Sweeney, in his first piece for the Almanac, tells the story of small-town WA footy in an even smaller world. [Welcome Peter – JTH]
