Michael Viljoen recently umpired a remarkable inner city suburban turf cricket preliminary final. The winners, the Thornbury Turf Strokers, a team composed mostly of young boys and girls, bravely took on the adult men of the South Yarra CC 5th grade team. The oldest player on the field was cricket writer Gideon Haigh.
