JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET

Dan Lenehan was part of the South West CA Under 17 team that played at Warrnambool Colts Country Week in early January. Dan performed well with the ball and finished the week opening the batting, playing a disciplined innings on the Thursday.

Finn Tolland, Gavin Reynolds & Ben Whytcross were part of the South West CA Under 13 team that played in the Country Week tournament at Portland. Finn contributed well with both bat and ball throughout the week, Gavin opened the bowling in every game and had some good success with the ball, while Ben played some handy knocks with the bat and kept wicket very well. A fantastic experience for the boys, with Gavin & Ben still eligible for the Under 13 tournament next season.

BIG BASH TRIP

Two bus loads of participants from our Woolworths Blast program, our Under 13 team, our Under 16 Boys and Under 16 girls teams and several parents made the trip to the Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers game in Geelong. Many thanks to Sam Walsh and Matthew Richardson for driving the buses, to Steve Lucas who always looks after us with the bus hire, and to the Melbourne Renegades for allocating us fantastic seats near the mid-wicket boundary.

OBITUARY- SIMON SCHLICHT

The Pomborneit Cricket Club is deeply saddened by the recent passing of former player and coach Simon Schlicht. Simon represented Pomborneit in 80 senior matches, including being a member of the club’s 1976/77 premiership team. A determined, technically correct left hand batsman, he scored 1446 runs for the club at an average of 18.78, with a highest score of 75. As a part time change bowler, he took 48 wickets at 20.52, with best figures of 6/23. Simon went on to pursue cricket at District level with the North Melbourne CC (now Greenvale Kangaroos CC), making it to their 2nd XI. Upon returning to the area in the 1990’s, Simon coached our Under 16 teams for several years, including the 1993/94 & 1994/95 premiership winning teams. When the club re-started our junior program in the 2011/12 season, Simon was extremely generous with his time and equipment donations. Always a great supporter of the club, Simon will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by everyone at the Pomborneit Cricket Club.

FACILITY UPGRADE

As announced last month, our next project is an extension of our existing clubrooms at the Pomborneit Recreation Reserve. All of our fundraising efforts from the past 12 months and into the immediate future will be directed towards extensions to the clubrooms, which will see two new changerooms, showers, toilets and a storage room added to the existing building to handle our growing roster of senior, junior, girls and womens teams. Contact Dave or Luke if you wish to contribute to the project, but the best way to help out is by supporting us in the Toyota raffle, purchasing a ticket to our “Bullnanza” function or by just being around the club on a regular basis following our teams!

BULLNANZA

Our annual “Bullnanza” function is on February 8th, always a fun night, great prizes and fantastic music from local band “In Progress”. See any club member for tickets and get along for one of the best nights on the Pomborneit calendar!

TOYOTA GOOD FOR CRICKET RAFFLE

A fantastic fundraiser to get behind as 100% of the ticket money comes back to the club, plus you have a chance to win a car! 1st prize is a Toyota RAV4, 2nd prize a Toyota Camry and 3rd prize is a Toyota Corolla, plus several other great prizes to be won. 100% of your ticket price comes straight back to the club, with all money raised going towards the clubroom extensions. Our coterie group, the “12th Man Club”, has now ticked over 40 memberships! For just $6 a week you can join in the fun of social events, cash draws and raising money for the development of the club’s facilities. Already the 12th Man Club has funded the new premiership photos and frames and the new displays in the clubrooms showcasing our history, published the 2018/19 Annual Report, held social functions in and out of season, and looks forward to contributing to the clubroom extension.
