Welcome to the Pomborneit Cricket Club’s October Review Newsletter, a month that saw some good results amongst several washouts.

GUEST PLAYER CRAIG DODSON

Division 2 had a very special guest player for Round 2 in Craig Dodson. Craig is embarking on a journey to play for 10 clubs all around Australia to raise money for the charity Gotcha4Life. Gotcha4Life is a not for profit organisation founded by Gus Worland in 2017 to help reduce instances of poor mental health in Australians. Check out their website gotcha4life.org

Craig, his wife Sophie and sons Harry & Jack fitted into the club wonderfully and we were thrilled to be the first stop on his journey. Read Craig’s account of his day at Pomborneit HERE.

UNDER 16 GIRLS TEAM

History was made on the 27th of October as the club fielded an all girls team for the very first time. Playing in the neighbouring Colac District Cricket Association girls competition, a great crowd turned out at the Pomborneit Recreation Reserve for the occasion, and while a very strong Irrewarra Red team showed us the standard we need to aspire to, the Pomborneit girls did us all proud with their efforts. The girls backed up 3 days later for a Wednesday evening game at Birregurra and put in a sensational performance, only losing 4 wickets in our 20 overs of batting then taking 9 Birregurra wickets despite the home team passing our score. We now have 9 players for the minimum 7 a side competition. Many thanks to the wonderful parents for their support and our fantastic coach Steph Townsend for her efforts and enthusiasm.

Congratulations to Jessica Parsons, appointed as the club’s inaugural girls team captain

Comments

  1. To Luke and Co at the Pomborneit Bulls – all the best to the Pomborneit Bulls for the new season. Great to see a girls team in there this time around! Did Craig Dodson score three votes in his lone appearance for the Seconds?

In an era in which so many clubs struggle, it’s a tonic to read about such a thriving, enthusiastic group like the Bulls.

  2. Thanks Ian!

C.Dodson would have certainly been among the votes, 2/11 from 8 overs was a very tidy return, plus looked solid with the bat.

  3. Great stuff,Luke and re both clubs seeing the overall picture and playing thru the rain during,Craig’s game and then a v successful evening with,Craig raising funds for mental health.Luke interested to hear more about the 12th man club
