Dunkeld Writers Festival

The Southern Grampians town of Dunkeld, in Victoria’s Western District, is delighted to host and organise a four-day festival in August from Thursday the 17th to Sunday the 20th. The four-day program consists of a range of thought-provoking and highly engaging speakers.

Almanac writer Bernard Whimpress and great friend of the Almanac Gideon Haigh will be in attendance!

Gideon is the Chair for Saturday’s brunch where panellists will cover the dangers of silence when it relates to our indigenous history. These panellists are at the forefront of political, educational and social reform for the advancement of indigenous Australians.

Gideon’s further involvement will be partaking as a panellist for discussions of sports journalism, tackling questions and subjects where sports writers may be at risk of becoming ghosts of the past and how they deal with the world of Moneyball.

On the Sunday program, we Bernard and Gideon will discuss matters of sporting history, outstanding sports people they have encountered and talk about how they found their way into the sporting press and the media, but not before we’re treated with a light-hearted test of our cricket knowledge with Bernard.

Outside of Bernard and Gideon’s involvement, there are plenty of events to book through morning, afternoon and evenings, with catering provided and tours around Dunkeld!
