Bush Footy Match Review

The senior game was wrapping up
when my little girl
came up to me and Dingo,
standing under the scoreboard
eucalypts,
sipping well-earned beers.

We’d had a crack in the mud,
in the Magoos.

The kid’s all of six, dressed in big, pink boots,
kaleidoscope leggings,
Snoopy top
and tutu.

“And what have you done today?”
he asked her.

She held a different finger
for each point,
as children do;

“Played with some new friends,
climbed some trees,
fed a horse (and it licked me!),
patted a girl’s pet goat,
mucked around in mud.”

The perfect
window, in which to frame
a photo of bush footy.

It’s a great day out at the footy for the kids! Remember well when my dad was playing late 50s taking me to the footy and mucking about with friends, newly discovered friends, and still able to watch him kick a goal or two as well. Treasured memories – thanks for the reminder with your cracking piece Old Dog.

    Love those Bulla choctops!
