Australia’s Role in the making of Jack Johnson – opinion piece in the ABC by Daryl Adair

Early 20th Century boxing champion, Jack Johnson, was recently pardoned by the White House. The pardon overturns a racially motivated conviction that resulted in Johnson fleeing to France and then imprisonment on return to the USA.

 

Sports historian Daryl Adair looks here at the role that Australia played in the career of a boxer deemed the greatest by “The Greatest”, Muhammad Ali:

  3. Jack Johnson also beat Bill Lang (a 14 game player with Richmond) at Richmond Race Course on Bridge Road in 1907.
