Almanac Teams: Two clubs in one year

St Kilda’s Mark Scott [Source: Author]
This week’s team has a tedious link to Easter, in that it is based on players that have ‘resurrected’ their careers midyear and played for two clubs in the one season.
This idea came from Almanancker Glen! who suggested this for a side in a comment on my previous three clubs in three years team.
Like the majority of my selections it is based from 1980 onwards but as Glen! suggested Bill Barrot in his comments section I have as a bonus feature put in some prominent names from the 1970s.
From what I counted on AFL tables there are 35 players who did this in the 1980s.
Up until 1989 players could be swapped between clubs without a draft and this could happen until the June 30 deadline. A mid-season draft took place from 1990-1993; David Johnston and Ian McMullin were the last players to play for two clubs in one year in 1992. While there is another mid-season draft now, it is solely for state-league players and below.
There are four players that played for one club one week and a different club the next week. They are Leigh Carlson, Russell Greene, Stephen Pirrie and Paul Sarah.

What great value Neville Fields was for the Swans….
in exchange for the Danihers!
Thanks Stewie.
Ta Rodney, good stuff.
There’s a few blokes there who turned out for three, four clubs.
Also some who ‘returned to sender’. Wayne Walsh, Phil Baker, Neville Fields are players who worked their way back to the original team.
Glen!
Nice segue into one of Rodney’s other sides, Glen!
https://www.footyalmanac.com.au/return-to-sender/
Thanks Rocket the Bombers easily won that deal.
Thanks for your idea Glen, there is a few that played three or four clubs. More bigger names changed club mid year in the 1970s than 80s
Thanks Jarrod for all your help and the link
Russell Greene didn’t do too badly from the trade!
I like him as a player.
Quirky story – good one!
Thanks Matt, can’t imagine training with one club on the Thursday and playing for a different club on the Saturday
Really interesting team, didn’t think there’d be that many!
Ian McMullin’s 1986 footy card was one of the first footy cards I ever got, was thrilled when he returned in
1992, remember him playing well in that first game back against the Bombers.
Thanks Luke, was always a couple it seems a few swaps each year in 1980s for players wanting more chances or premiership opportunity like Greg Wells
