On October 10th, 1948, the Castlemaine Woollen Mill Ladies team hosted a match against a combined team from Daylesford.
Daylesford had formed a team from two separate women’s teams, each made from workers at two local textile mills. Teams from the Daylesford Woollen and Worsted Mill, and the Daylesford Daytex Mill, played at least 3 or 4 games in 1947 and 1948 either separately or as a combination.
After a game in September resulted in a 29-point win for Castlemaine, a re-match was held at Castlemaine with buses ran from Daylesford ferrying spectators to the match. Once again won by Castlemaine, the game saw more than 2000 people in attendance, according to the Daylesford Advocate published on October 15, 1948.
