Almanac (Footy) Songs: Dangerfield

Simon Minahan felt the combined inspiration of footy and Jimmy Webb and penned this song:

Dangerfield (to the tune of ‘Galveston’)

Dangerfield O Dangerfield
I still see your big thighs pumping
While you gave the Pies a thumping
Halftime score: ten goals to one.
The poor Pies’ season done.

Dangerfield O Dangerfield
I know that you have your Brownlow
But will ever you get your flag, though?
You’re such a Gun. But will you get the big job done?

I can see you standing by the water
In your wetsuit somewhere near Torquay,
Thinking “in the end where will I be,
“In the Football Pantheon?”

Dangerfield O Dangerfield
You must be so afraid of retiring
Of your magnificence expiring
Before you see a flag flying in the sun
Down at Geelong, at Geelong.

…Go Danger
