Yoshi interviewed by AFL Asia for their podcast

On Tuesday night, I got a phone call from Matt Gale, my good mate and mentor. Due to technical issues, we had difficulty in communicating verbally, but I understood that AFL Asia was running a podcast on Thursday afternoon.

Asking him about it afterwards, I got a message back from Matt on Wednesday morning and I was told that AFL Asia was interviewing me on Thursday afternoon for their #howgoodsfootyinasia podcast Episode 2. I was very excited indeed!

My first live streamed interview started at 2.10 pm (Japan Time) conducted by Matt and Bill Crang (Vietnam Swans). My footy profile was the topic on the show – how I started following footy, how I became a St Kilda supporter, how I joined the Osaka Dingoes, about footy career and writing, how writing and playing are connecting, and etc.

Almanackers who were at the meeting up dinner at North Fitzroy Arms in October 2017 know that I can sing AFL club songs. I am known about it in the AFL Asia community. During the interview, I was asked to sing St Kilda, Melbourne, Gold Coast Suns and Essendon songs. It was good entertainment too.

Here is the live stream of the podcast from AFL Asia’s Facebook page.

I hope you enjoy the interview!

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

Love, passion and pride are seen on the footy that is the biggest part of my life. 1. St Kilda Club member: I am a passionate and crazy Sainter. Just hope we will win the second flag soon, especially after Dogs and Tigers having ended long premiership draughts. 2. The Osaka Dingoes Player and Public Relations Officer: Player number 44 that I chose to honour Stephen Milne with my wish being like a small forward like him. Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Writing: Here on the Almanac and also on the World Footy News. My skills utilise on great footy websites.

  4. The title of this article got me thinking about doing a football team where every player has an Asian background.

This is the VFL/AFL Asian team:

HB: Bachar Houli (Rich/Lebanese descent), Alex Rance (Rich/Indian Great Grandfather), Jordan McMahon (WB/Rich/Indian descent)

C: Andrew Embley (WC/Anglo-Burmese father), Daniel Kerr (WC/Anglo-Indian father), Matthew Stokes (Geel/Ess/Filipino-descent)

HF: Callum Ah Chee (GC/Bris/Indig/Chinese father), Mil Hanna (Carl/Lebanese born), Brendan Ah Chee (PA/WC/Indig/Chinese father)

F: Robin Nahas (Rich/NM/Lebanese descent), Reef McInnes (Coll/Filipino mother), Paul Medhurst (Frem/Coll/Malaysian mother)

R: Miitchito Owens (Japanese mother), Clancee Pearce (Frem/Indian mother), Peter Bell (c) (Frem/NM/Born in Korea/Mother born in South Korea)

    Sub: Alex Davies (GC/Japanese mother)

Emergencies: Danny Seow (Coll/Born in Singapore/Chinese father), Mordy Bromberg (St K/Born in Israel), Sudjai Cook (Adel/Born in Thailand)

This team will play an exhibition match against an Australian African AFL Team, named by Damian B on August 16, 2020.

The match will be played at the Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai, China, formerly known as Shanghai Stadium.

Transport will be from Air China.

The after match meal will include Peking Duck and Dim Sum.

Let’s hope for a good game that will help AFL football in Asia.

  5. Jayden Nguyen played his first senior game of AFL Football for Essendon against Sydney on Saturday.

He is the first player of Vietnamese descent to play in the AFL and he has been added to the emergencies for the VFL/Asian team, named in the above comment.
