WAFL – Round 21: Mat seals the deal for East Perth

EAST PERTH’S Mathew Seal has always like kicking goals and at Leederville on Saturday he had a PB – seven – after the Royals lost the competition’s leading goal scorer Josh Smith to injury early in the game. East Perth scored 14 goals to Subiaco’s three in the second half. Brendan Lee did his Sandover hopes no harm, Matt Rosa was in strong form and Paul Johnson was influential in the ruck. Brett Mahoney kicked two goals and was Subiaco’s best player.

Peel gave Swan Districts a big scare with a six-goal last quarter that saw them grab the lead late in the game at Rushton Park. A goal from Andrew Embley won back the lead and the game and a spot in the top four for Swans. Dayle Garlett kicked five goals and Ryan Davis and Matt Rogers were also good in the forward line. Hayden Crozier was in fine form for the Thunder as was Brendan Jones While Kris Thornton kicked three goals.

Perth’s finals hopes are slipping away after they turned a seven-point quarter time lead into a 60-point loss to West Perth at Moora. The Falcons turned the game with a nine-goal second quarter, Matt Guadagnin overcame a slow start to put in a brilliant performance for West Perth, Matt Fowler kicked five goals, Chris Keunen was strong in the ruck and Nick Rodda was desperate in defence. The Demons scored just 10 behinds in the second half; Joel Lesson worked hard as did Brett Hodge.

Next week: East Perth play Perth at Leederville on Saturday while on Sunday it’s West Perth vs East Fremantle at Joondalup, Peel vs South Fremantle at Rushton Park and Claremont play Swan Districts at Claremont. Every game will have an impact on the ladder.
