The Women’s Footy Almanac 2018 – Now Available!
We are proud to present The Women’s Footy Almanac 2018!
In 2018, athletes became warriors for women in sport both on and off the field.
The Women’s Footy Almanac 2018 encapsulates the power of the AFLW season where women’s footy developed as a game and a beacon for social change.
Our writers cover every match of the season. They tell the stories. They address the issues. They are the conversation.
The cover painted by Essendon VFLW player, Kendra Heil and designed by John Kingsmill of a victorious Hannah Scott is sensational.
This year’s edition includes match reports in the tradition of The Footy Almanac by our squad of Almanac writers. Diverse voices covering the games with different point of views, experiences and expertise.
There are also powerful essays, personal reflections, comedic pieces, season reviews and poems that describe and analyse the season, discuss the landscape of women’s football generally and express the passion for the game we as fans have for it.
Highlights of The Women’s Footy Almanac 2018 include:
- A welcome from Yvette Wroby
- A reflection on falling back in love with Australian Football by Deb Waterhouse-Watson
- The next installment of Brisbane student Bonnie Norman’s junior football career
- Kate O’Halloran’s Season Review
- Kasey Symons’ player interviews with Sophie Conway, Karen Paxman, Hannah Scott, Isabel Huntington, Bonnie Toogood and Tiarna Ernst
- David Wilson’s epilogue about his daughter’s relationship to football and seeing women in the game
- A Grand Final wrap-up from diehard Bulldogs fan, Kirby Fenwick
- A short playful poem for every round by Damian Balassone

The game by game account of the season follows – with two or three pieces on each game from our squad of contributors who bring their passion as fans and footy-lovers to each game. There are too many great reports to name them all but Georgina Hibberd’s GWS write ups, Danae Gibson’s takes on her Dockers, John Butler’s reviews of his Blues and Verity Sander’s Crows write ups are features.
