John Sharrock

John Sharrock was a member of the Geelong 1963 Premiership side.

He was born in Tooleybuc near Swan Hill in 1944, left school early and worked on the family’s citrus farm. He was the Murray League’s best and fairest winner in 1962 as an 18 year old, and was then recruited by Geelong.

In his first year at Geelong in 1963 as a left footed 19yo star forward flank, John played all 20 games culminating in the premiership. Through 1966 he played at full back, centre half back, centre and centre half forward and came third in the Brownlow to Ian Stewart.

His football career ended in 1968 due to a knee injury, as a 24 year old with 94 senior games. He is a life member of the Geelong Football club.

John still lives in NE Victoria and has an interest in horse racing. He bred the well performed Tooleybuc Kid (named after him) which was raced by Gerry Ryan & the Vint Cinq club.
