Gilbert (born 1967, Alice Springs) & Ronnie (1973, Tiwi) are from the Northern Territory and both made names for themselves in the AFL. Both were panelists on the first Marngrook Footy Show on TV in 2007.

Gilbert played a few games for Claremont in WA in ’86 before going to Central Districts in SA in 1988, where he also finished his playing career. He played 86 games, and in ’89 won their Best & Fairest, the Magarey Medal & the Premiership. He moved to St Kilda for 53 games and then to Brisbane for 58 games. In ’99 he returned to Alice Springs & coached South Alice to the premiership. He is in the SANFL Indigenous Team & the AFLNT Team of the Century, and the AFLNT Hall of Fame. He went to the Academy of Sport in Shepparton in 2007 and is seen these days on the AFL TV coverage doing on field interviews.

Ronnie played 28 games for West Perth from 1993, before going to Geelong in 1996 and playing 134 games. He was a spectacular, fast, skillful and exciting player but not consistent enough to be rated near the very best, where his best form placed him. He led their goalkicking for 5 of his 7 years. In 2003 he moved to the Crows playing 20 games as well as 12 games for Port in the SANFL.

  1. Mark 'Swish' Schwerdt says

I wish that Gilbert *had* won a flag in 1989. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

  2. Whenever I see Gilbert now, I am reminded of the Marngrook footy show. RIP.
