Rulebooks Redlegs v the Cock a doodle doos
North Adelaide take on Norwood at Prospect (Chocka Bloch says come on Rulebook, Wembley of the North) at 1.15 on Saturday presumably to try and maximize the attendance of people also heading to Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. North have been disappointing so far in 2015 with only the one win and five losses. The Roosters have a reasonable amount of talent and should be far more competitive than they have shown so far. Leigh Ryswyk who was one of the better performers in the SA side (aka Dads Army) who were comfortably defeated by WA in Perth last week. The SA selectors made the mistake of picking name players from the past not in form young hungry players IMO. North have the smooth moving left footer in Nick Amato in the middle, former Leg Will Dalwood will have a key battle with Norwood full forward Michael Juice Newton (injured in State game out for 4 to 6 weeks ). Max Thring may well tag key Redleg and triple Magarey Medallist ex Rooster Jimmy Allan it will be fun to watch the by-play between these two good mates. Allan was injured last year in this corresponding fixture by a very poor spear tackle by Joe Anderson so this game will have some added spice. The Legs will sorely miss Brady Dawe injured by a crude spoiling attempt v South two weeks ago the umpire will get around to paying the obvious 25 meter penalty soon. Toby Schulz is another ex Redleg who will be keen to have a good game for the Roosters. James Craig (ex Crows listed ruckman) will have an intriguing battle in ruck with key Norwood big man Sam Baulderstone, surely Baulderstone’s aerobic capacity and the way he links up with the midfield would have been handy in Perth? Liam Davis will be required to lift in the absence of Dawe hopefully he will clunk a couple of marks early for his confidence. The Redlegs’ hard working mid fielder link man Ben Jefferies and in form defender Michael Chippendale are very important and are exactly what I mean being young and talented and should have made their state debuts. North’s Captain Greg Gallman needs to lift and contribute more on field to help the Roosters’ cause. The talented Michael Clinch is another rooster who has the ability to impose himself on a game and needs to lift. Alan Obst recruited from Central District has been a tad inconsistent and needs to kick some goals. Michael McMahon for North has showed poise and promise so far and is a rising star winner. Mitch Wilkins for Norwood since returning from North Melbourne has slipped quietly under the radar for the legs with his clean hands and precise decision making a highlight. The legs leaders in defenders Jace Bode and Alex Georgiou will work hard and make sure the press and structures are adhered 2 with Smalls Kane Murphy, Josh Donohue, Peter Persinos and Simon Phillips to apply the forward pressure. I will predict a Norwood win ( 21 to 30 ).
No Juice and maybe the absence of Panos and Bode will give a couple of youngsters a chance. That being the case Norwood by five goals plus.
State game first – as you point out an old and slow team was picked on reputation when WA went young-ish and quick. The two SA ruckmen had something like 6 disposals between them. It is quite plainly ludicrous that Baulderstone was not selected. It makes you question the football nous of the selectors if they think Willits is preferable. As for Saturday, our lack of forwards a worry but it creates opportunities to try new things. Thanks Malcolm
Norwood should win this game easily, I would have thought. Which team is Andrew Jarman playing for again?????
Spot-on with your State game comments Malcolm, a younger squad would have been more competitive-youth against youth!
The ‘Legs should win this Saturday by 30 points at least, better if it’s more-I reckon a percentage boosting win is a must against teams with a win/loss record like the Roosters- because there are a couple of teams below us on the ladder with FAR BETTER PERCENTAGE, and a couple of losses will see us plummet down the ladder, could even mean the difference between playing in Finals or not at the pointy end of the season.
I agree.
North should be better placed than the solitary win…..
Thank god for the hapless bays!
Stitched the spoon up ultra early this season.
Newton, Panos, Dawe and Bode all out injured. Will be hard to cover these losses on a ground we struggle at. Allan will get 40 touches but unfortunately North by 19pts.
The Dutchie’s may get an extra $10 this weekend for the use of their front yard.
Never want to over confident but should be a solid win for Norwood on the weekend. Not the first SA team to be done for pace in the West.
Used to be essential to have a sound knowledge of the names of the North Adelaide players in order to pass one of Chocka’s subjects. Pity the poor student new to Australia sitting in the front row who didn’t know who Barrie Robran was.
Are they still playing for the time-honoured Hammond-von Bertouch-Craig Cup ?
i’m not all that confident about this one.
North by a couple of goals. I don’t think they are THAT bad.
A 1.30 start gives me the shits but I’ll be there as always.
Go Legs!
agree re the State side – even the coach was too old and out of the game for too long. We got what we deserved really. I am definintely not a redlegs fan but they are embarrased for talent and should win easily. North are enigmatic and only 1 win is really under par. At least we at the bay expected hard yards in 2015 but roosters fans would be pretty peeved at their record thus far this season.
C’mon you mighty redlegs.
Throw Jarman and Robran in there too, Swish
Hi Rafo, do you mean “Dutchy’s Bespoke Parking” at Flora Terrace? Dutchy senior is now charging $12 a car. He is obviously trying to cater for the top end of town at that price: think Range Rovers not commodores. Ha-ha Go the roosters! good work Rulebook.
Very poor effort by SA Poor selections of players and coach.
Norwood North will be a good contest
State game wise a very poor side with out any thought of the future re side chosen and WA hunger was a key factor in the result.Danny Jars could play a half for each if not suspended in the mean time.Swish and Dave add in Stephen Kerley and Doug Smart.Milts Chockas lectures always had more than a touch of rooster and blacks influence.Raf and Dutchy nothing wrong with some ingenuity loved the comments guys. With the legs injuries any win will be a good win. Thanks folks
Dave
I think A Jarman’s name has been sandblasted from honour boards throughout SA, even Gaza have disowned him.
Robran would be just a bridge too far.
Great preview! The Legs should definitely win this one.
Looking forward to a huge weekend of games including North vs Norwood. I do believe the legs can win this won without key players injured from the state game and against South (Brady Dawe).
Hopefully the red and blue can drown out the red and white in noise and numbers.
Yet to visit Prospect Oval this season or Unley Oval so hopefully an enjoyable visit to Prospect on Saturday. Last two times I was there were not enjoyable for the home side (Crows winning a thriller and Port Magpies win last year) so hoping to see another ‘away’ victory that will upset the natives. Go Legs.
What is it with people dissing Matty Robran?
Go the Legs, 4 in a row would be gold
Gold…that would make Red, Blue and Gold – congrats Adelaide.
Wembley of the North?? Prospect sounds impressive. Would love to see Baulderstone play, sounds impressive, plenty of AFL clubs could do with a ready made ruckman.
A big match for our small players to stand up. Prospect oval is a tricky propersition anytime of the year we should shine though
Norwood 7 points
Good preview Book….
I don’t know much about SANFL currently but I do find it hard to believe that Baulderstone couldn’t make the state side as first ruck.
Onto this game – the Redlegs and the Rooster don’t get along – there is much history between these 2 neighbours. I remember when a mate Tim “the Dog Chain” Davis was caught in a half time brawl in the race at Norwood Oval with coach Bone McDermott right in the middle of it leading his troops!
I can’t see the mighty Legs dropping this game tomorrow – they seem to have the cattle and the system to overcome most teams – perhaps their only real rival this year will be the “professionals” from Alberton – although the injury list is mounting in the AFL team so they may be challenged until later in the season…
Go the Blacks v Tee Hee Gully – we really need a win!
Sounds early in the year to be playing a representative game.
The squad would have to picked after, what, 3 or 4 games. Hardly enough time to work out form lines.
No wonder selectors opt for reputation.
An interesting game with the roosters with some of our past players.juice going down backs up my theory of no state of origin games. Brady dawe.. speedy recovery. Legs by 35 points
My suggestion is that when Liverpool play adelaide united in July both clubs merge with north adelaide and become “the red red roosters”
A good battling win for the legs in the end( especially with our outs) apart from our goal kicking which is in all honesty a huge on going concern .Brent top of the class re your tip only 1 point out ! OBP fair point but had played 7 games so definitely some more listening from the clubs would have meant a far better balanced, younger and hungrier sa side would have been picked
