FEARLESS 2015 RD 8:
Geelong took on the Blues at Etihad on Friday night and the public transport was a sea of navy and white. A slow and steady descent into a world of pain ensued for Blues fans. Carlton had twice kept pace with the Cats in 2014 but not tonight. Troy Menzel kicked 4 as a shining light, Murdoch 4 for the Cats. Geelong home by 77pts.
The young Saints hosted the much improved West Coasters with hopes of an upset. A 7 goal 1st qtr by the visitors soon put paid to that. The Saints fired back in the 2nd but all to no avail eventually. Hill and Kennedy kicked 4, Cripps and Yeo 3 for the Eagles. The improvement in the Eagles noticeable, the Saints falling away by 53pts.
GWS had endured some shellackings at the hand of Adelaide in its short AFL life. The chance to atone came at the Rooty Hill racecourse on Saturday arvo. The potent Giants attack was led by ‘Sons of Anarchy’ McCarthy who kicked 4. A 4 goal win to GWS reward for leading all day. Crows off Parramatta River Bridge Sunday 5am.
Collingwood had to head to Club Metricon to reverse an emerging trend of losses against the Sunnyboys in Queensland. Much focus was to be on Clokey’s free kick count. In the end that didn’t matter as the Magpies 69pt win said it all. Eliott’s 5 goals led the charge as did Jesse White’s 4. A Collingwood Clinic Held on the Coast.
And what a Grand Final Replay it was. The Swans were quick off the blocks arguably keen to bury last year’s ghosts. A 27pt qtr time lead a solid start. A low scoring, intense encounter saw the Swans forward spread more effective. The Hawks came to play after qtr time and hit the front in the 3rd. Sydney fought back for a 4pt win.
North Melbourne talked the talk against Fremantle but failed miserably to walk the walk. The manic intensity of Freo’s 2013 Purple haze has returned in 2015. Kangas Coach Scott lamented schoolboy errors en route to a 73pt loss. Son Son found touch in the Freo Fyfe-dom with 4 goals. Fremantle is the real deal in 2015. North Yo-Yo’s.
The Bombers found touch against Brisbane led by the soon-to-be-beefed-up Joe Daniher with 6 goals. The Lions were only a goal down at the half, but a 7 goal 3rd qtr brought joy to the red and black army. Josh Green and Wicked Lester offering some forward pressure for the Lions but on the roll, the Bombers got home by 58pts.
Bevos Bullies strode onto the MCG confident of a win against Melbourne. The Demons had other ideas, shaking the demons of the previous week to produce a real 4 qtr effort led by Boxer Shorts Bernie who held young Dog the Bont to minimal effect. Young Hogan kicked 3 on return and young Toumpas played well. Dees 39pts.
Modelling a WA-infused Sandgroper clash jumper, Richmond headed to Adelaide to erase finals pain from 2014 against Port Power. It was a 4 qtr hatchet job by the Tigers, soured only by a knee injury to Vickery. Kane Cornes’ last game for Port was a limp team effort, a shadow of 2014. Tigers got home by 33pts, Dimmer said mature.
