early season slump ~
some leaves
already turning
Autumn sky ~
magpies
in freefall
no goals ~
the full-forward’s muscles
glistening
team in disarray ~
a meat pie at my feet
splattered
lengthening shadows ~
another goal puts them
out of reach
sun disappears ~
our defence vanished
long ago
loss to bottom team ~
at least the moon
retains its brilliance
About rob scott
Rob Scott (aka Haiku Bob) is a peripatetic haiku poet who calls Victoria Park home. He writes haiku in between teaching whisky and drinking English, or something like that.
HB – I hate to say it but perhaps the Magpies did not lose to the bottom team. Perhaps the Saints beat the bottom team.
Agree about the moon’s brilliance.
Misery loves poetry. Fine work.
