Round 22 – Footy Fixture: It’s getting cutthroat!

Round 22

Melbourne v Sydney 17 v 15
Carlton v St Kilda 16 v 13
Brisbane v Geelong 2 v 1
Adelaide v Collingwood 9 v 5
North Melbourne v Port Adelaide 14 v 8
Fremantle v Essendon 12 v 7
Richmond v West Coast Eagles 4 v 3
GWS v Western Bulldogs 6 v 10
Hawthorn v GCS 11 v 18

Wow, some real crackers this round!

First plays second, third plays forth; those results will see positions change and the winners will sure up an opportunity of the double chance.

On form over the past few weeks you would expect Port to account for a disappointing North to firm up a spot in the 8.

Adelaide and the Bulldogs both have tough games against the Pies and GWS respectively, and both need to win to maintain pressure on the Bombers and Port, especially if Port lose for a finals berth.

Essendon after their dismal performance against the Bulldogs really need to turn their game around if they are to win and remain in the 8. Their form over the last two rounds suggests it will be difficult for them to win especially playing the game in the West. However one more win should ensure the Bombers play finals, and that may be the incentive they need. A win to Freo will give them an outside chance for the 8 depending on the results of other games.

Hawthorn and St Kilda, both on 36 points, will be keen to win against their lower placed opposition, and like other teams around them will need to rely on results falling their way if they are to sneak into the 8.

It’s going to be an enthralling round of matches!

  1. Here I was thinking the Tigers were 5th at that point.

  2. Nothing very enthralling about Adelaide and Port Adelaide in that round. Both were absolutely smashed and neither deserve to play finals footy.

Earlier in the season I was so angry with the Crows I said there needed to be a big broom through the club – nothing has changed. I for one, wouldn’t be sorry to see both the senior coach and the midfield couch moved on, several players retire and both the Crouch brothers traded ( I’m sick of watching them play ring – a – rind a – rosie with the ball).
