Round 22 – Cam Hooke’s Collingwood Life: round 22 preview

True Believers, greetings to all.

Okay, Week 2 of our 2016 pre-season.  A pretty awful Week 1.

Party Line response to niggles:  “We’re not stuck in the past.  We are already in 2016 Pre-Season“.

A disappointing start to 2016, but there is a benefit to that?  The only way from there is up.  We have had a bit of an interesting slide following our 2010 Premiership:

2010    Place: Premiers    Coach: Malthouse;

2011    2nd                        Malthouse;

2012    4th                         Buckley;

2013    8th                         Buckley;

2014    11th                       Buckley; and

2015    Not final, yet, but might be even further down.    Buckley.

Anything jumping out at you?  No, I’m not targeting Bucks; yet.  I did, and continue to, support the coaching handover 2011/12, but note that great coaches aren’t always ex-great players.  2016 is going to have to be good – certainly, I think our List is fantastic (with a couple of slight changes needed).

A little bit of a fuss over Pendles’ comments after last week’s game: “(He) lamented that the match against Richmond was the first he had played in that didn’t mean anything.”  Followed (pretty quickly) by Bucks’ response: “Disappointing day today – just because the finals (are) out of reach, we can’t dish that stuff up to our amazing supporters who always show up,” he tweeted on Saturday night.  Don’t disagree, one bit with that.

THIS WEEK:

Round 22.
Versus Geelong at the G on Friday, 28 August;
7.50pm.
Or the Two’s at Vic Park on Saturday; bounce at 1.00pm.

US AND THEM:  This is 9th v 12th; $2.90 vs $1.42.

Them:  Geelong are still trying to prolong their season (they probably need to win both their last games).  As such, I suspect they will work very hard to get the win.

Us:  I was tempted to cut and paste my comments regarding suggested changes from last week, particularly relating to the Game Plan. Lets see what happens. This is a 2016 pre-season game for us and should be treated accordingly – selections and Game Plan. Welcome your comments and ideas?

PREVIEWS:

The AFL’s Match Centre.

Natoli – usually somewhere at http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/. Always worth a read when it’s there.

Teams.  Tonight, after 6.00pm.

TV:  Free to Air. 7mate, from 7.30pm.

Weather?  10 – 13 deg, showers, windy.  What – Melbourne – last weekend of Winter?

My predictions?  Pies by 19; BOG – Pendles; Goals: Trav – 4, Cox – 4.  Your predictions?

OTHER:

Eddie Watch:  Quiet – always of some concern;

The Twos:  A great performance last week at Victoria Park against Richmond – well done, Cox with 5 goals. The VFL side’s last H&A game for 2015 is against Port Melbourne on Saturday at Victoria Park.  We’ve made the Finals – not exactly sure in what place yet.  The VFL Finals start the following week.  Check who can play – a pretty talented collection!

Fan Numbers:  Where are we?  Still on top, just.

Looking forward:  Trades:  Who do you think we need?  Who could we get rid of?  I have a couple of suggestions. To have a quick look at our List, check: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-12/golden-oldies-how-your-sides-30plus-players-are-travelling and http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2015-08-27/five-pies-named-in-elite-squad.

I hope some of you are going to the game, or maybe to the Two’s game.

Maintain the Faith.  Believe.  Go Pies – 2016.
