Round 18 – St Kilda v Western Bulldogs: More than just a win

St Kilda versus Western Bulldogs
Sunday, 21 July 2019
4:40 pm
Marvel Stadium, Melbourne

It was the game I had planned to attend rather than the Shanghai clash at first. Instead I was at the Dingoes training in Kobe.

I bought a hotdog at a convenience store in Kyoto before boarding a train to travel to Kobe. Eating it with my wish Saints beating Doggies, I uploaded a photo on Instagram and Facebook. My great footy mate Ricky Olarenshaw made a comment, “Go Dogs!”

When my teammate Shane arrived at Minato no Mori Park, he asked me the prediction. I said “fifty fifty”. He responded “the Bulldogs will beat the Saints.”

I was not confident the mighty Saints would win, to be honest. But I wanted my boys to show effort and win after Richo had resigned.

Score updates were delivered by Matt during the training and St Kilda led massively. The margin narrowed at some points, but finally the Saints won.

On the field, he told me that interim coaches always win their first game. Brett Ratten followed the trend.

I am happy with the win.

Watching the replay on Monday night, I found out that attacking footy came back and commentators told the audience that it was the first game Saints scored 100 points or more in 2019.

Lonie came back with fine form scoring goals. He’s the key Saint forward. Handpasses and kicks were efficient and we had turnovers. The Saints put much pressure on Dogs. Clark tackled, ran hard and kicked goals. He has risen well and is a good young player now.

Membrey’s accurate goal kicking was shown at our favourite Marvel Stadium. Our first game player Langlands was welcomed warmly by the great club. He kicked his first AFL goal. Welcome to the mighty Saints!

Parker got back his fine form, too. Gresham was everywhere. Billings continues his break-out year.

Saints had a massive lead at one stage, but the Bulldogs dominated a lot of the third quarter; however St Kilda kept the lead and won by 27 points. And we scored 116 points.

It was a great victory for the Saints and Brett Ratten.

Speculation is spreading again. Ratten is said to be seeking a way back to Carlton. But I want him as a permanent senior coach at Moorabbin. Ross Lyon has said that he is wanted by St Kilda board members. No thanks, because he left a mess at the club I love and sought more money and moved to Fremantle.

We need to keep hard working for the rest of the season and get ready to play finals in 2020.

Go the mighty Saints!

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

Love, passion and pride are seen on the footy that is the biggest part of my life. 1. St Kilda Club member: I am a passionate and crazy Sainter. Just hope we will win the second flag soon, especially after Dogs and Tigers having ended long premiership draughts. 2. The Osaka Dingoes Player and Public Relations Officer: Player number 44 that I chose to honour Stephen Milne with my wish being like a small forward like him. Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Writing: Here on the Almanac and also on the World Footy News. My skills utilise on great footy websites.

  2. Hi Julian,

Thanks for your compliment and offer for potential visit to Perth. And my apology for not getting back to you sooner.

Once again St Kilda scored more than 100 points against Melbourne (who are my hidden big rivals). I’m so happy with the win.

Maybe I can email you with match reviews.
