Some very interesting Round 16 matches this week which will impact on the final 8.

Essendon and Sydney will both want to keep their finals aspirations alive and both will be desperate for a win, more so the Bombers. A win really places them in the mix whereas a loss by the Swans and it’s virtually goodbye for them.

Home town rivals Adelaide and Port Adelaide will be keen to determine who is top dog in their town, and with teams knocking on the door to the 8 both will be keen for a win. Adelaide to cement a place in the 8, and PA a potential place in the 8.

The other home town derby between the Eagles and the Dockers will as always be fierce and fought down to the wire. Freo really can’t afford to lose more games but injuries have hit them hard. The Eagles are beginning to show their premiership form of last year and should be hard to beat.

Hawthorn may be feeling confident against the Pies who have struggled in recent weeks, and although the Hawks went down to the Eagles  their effort was admirable.

GWS and Brisbane should be a good match. The Lions are confounding the pundits who still don’t know if they are the real thing or not. GWS will be snarky about losing a game they would have had earmarked as a win.

North will be keen to continue winning to keep a finals position possibly alive for them.

Richmond should account for the Suns one would expect while I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bulldogs pulled off a surprise win against the Cats at Marvel, they are that sought of team!

Melbourne will be fighting for some pride after a very disappointing season so far but Carlton gaining in confidence week by week may just surprise the Demons.

A cracker of a round of matches!
