Round 16 – Collingwood v Richmond: Floreat Pica Society match report

Round 16
Collingwood v Richmond
Saturday 27 June 2026
MCG
Greetings all,
As I prepare to watch the game, I note the reserves had a good win which made me happy. Pods and Angry Anderson both had a good afternoon and sure come under consideration for next week??
Also, Carlton continue their good form which a middle aged Collingwood supporter does not bode well.
The game started and the pies are on the back foot early. The highlight being the apparent waltz Jaicos and Rioli performed in the back pocket! Can’t say I’ve ever seen that before!
After an ordinary 5 min or so, Naicos gets us rolling with a nice goal after a strong tackle.
Not much to like, we look like mentally we are playing a bottom team and lack the desire and work rate required. Lucky to be level at 1/4 time, 15 each of two.
Fly must have sprayed a few as we start the second quarter well with 3 quick goals. Importantly, Naicos, Pendles and DeGoey are prominent. Richmond aren’t themselves with a few shockers, as in disposal and decisions! We aren’t immune, what was that Howey?? Bites off a risky kick which is intercepted. Costs us a goal. Sting goes out of the game for the rest of the quarter, save for a couple of nice Membrey mark and goals and same for Buller. Why can’t he kick for goal like that more often??? Nice goal. We are 5 and half goals the good at half time.
Third quarter started with a Richmond goal. They put us under a bit of pressure for a period, but a couple of goals to “mount” Buller and Lipinski extend our advantage.
Tresize takes a screamer in the goal square, fantastic mark. Almost!! The umpire inexplicably pays the front contact free instead of the mark. Talk about failing to read the room as Garry Lyons comments! Either way it’s a goal to Richmond.
On a side note, the umpires interpretation of 15 metres for a mark need A LOT of work. I’ve been frustrated with play on calls for marks that look like they travelled the required distance to the naked eye. Richmond win the quarter by a few points, pies by 28 with a quarter to go.
Last quarter starts with goals to Schulz and Naicos. He has 3 now, will he get a 4th for the first time?
The sting leaves the game a little, but geez Mansell kicks a ripper from the boundary. I appreciate it, but only because we have a very handy lead!
Schulz kicks a few nice goals late and looks good out of the goal square. Actually reminded me of Billy Elliott.
Pies by 34 in the end. Could have been more in the end given how many relatively easy shots at goal we missed.
