Round 12 – Essendon v Richmond: The Dons and the Dogs (no not Footscray!)

We’ve had a couple of dogs for over five years and every night we take them out for a toilet break around 9.30.  I planned that I could do this at ¾ time in the Dreamtime game, so I wouldn’t miss out on the action.

The Dons were down by 22 points, and Richmond seemed to be in control of the game, they were answering all the Essendon moves in this fast moving entertaining contest. So as the siren went for ¾ time I was out with the pups. The trouble was that one of them was determined to stay out longer which was very unusual behaviour, so I walked for a little longer.

When I got back, much to my great surprise and excitement the Dons had just hit the front. I had missed the resurgence, what a fantastic ten minutes it must have been, and I had missed it!!!!!

There was still plenty of time left in the game, so I witnessed much to my bitter disappointment Richmond regain the lead. The Dons had a great chance to get back but a gettable shot from Darcy Parish who had played another great game, missed.  Richmond increased their lead, and when another shot from one of the promising young guns Nik Cox went wide I had a feeling a gloom.

The Tigers sure played havoc in the latter part of the quarter, they kicked goals over the heads and from distant parts of the ground, they were unstoppable.

I still have a very positive feeling about the Dons, apart from the last ten minutes they were competitive.  The young players , and the established members never stopped  trying, they gave it their all in very different playing conditions.

A bye next week and in the meantime I’m going to try and train the pups to be  quicker for their nightly ablutions.
