Round 11 – Sal’s Preview (Vol 2): – Into the stretch

Greetings All,

Only eight more days!  I think we can say that Port has beaten somebody now, the Dogs were flattered by that margin over Brisbane.  The Blues just not good enough against the Eagles and North is a world of pain after that effort against Melbourne.  The Dees have been super against the bottom pair.

Thanks for the Membreys ($2.70) vs Not Worth a Zach ($1.58)

A Monday Night Special with the major rivals of the late noughties matching up in another top of the table encounter.  Zach Guthrie stiff to be ‘managed’ after one game – I think the term really is ‘omitted’.  The Saints appear to match up pretty well against the Cats here with a particular advantage in the rucks with Ryder-Marshall taking on Stanley and whoever else is sacrificed.  Geelong might just have edge with weight of numbers through the middle but a cracking contest that is tough to call.  Geelong have an extra day coming off a soft kill over North, while St Kilda played a torrid affair against the Suns.  The latter might be better form, but reckon the extra day will favour Geelong.

Mundy Night Football ($2.28) vs The Light of Day ($1.77)

Freo host Hawthorn in the late game in a good test for both clubs.  Will Day flicked the switch for the Hawks against the Blues which saw them play with a more aggressive (and attractive) brand of footy than they had been dishing up.  Will it continue or was it the scoreboard that triggered it?  At least they know they can play quickly.  Freo will be buoyed by the win over the Pies somewhat flattered by the exceptional accuracy.  They are strengthened with a couple of good ins while no Burgoyne hurts the Hawks.  Home deck going with the Dockers.

Green Ginger Wine ($4.50) vs Sweeping Changes ($1.28)

Tim Broomhead looks likely to return to the Collingwood line up as their injury list continues to grow with Quaynor, Treloar and Hoskin-Elliott requiring replacement.  They face the Crows whose supporters already have downgraded their tipples for year could be reaching for the very low end!  Collingwood will not have their best team in and playing at Adelaide Oval will give some hope to Matthew Nicks.  His senior players though are playing with no purpose and little care for the team so reckon the Pies will get back on the winners list.

Overdew ($1.78) vs Church Service ($2.08)

Darcy Parish has stepped up with a few of the other younger Bombers while the likes of Heppell and Stringer sit out.  Not quite getting them over the line but handy for the future.  They face a great test up against the Suns who have been pipped by under a goal in their last couple.  The match against the Saints last week was a beauty, reckon that is good form for this and have them winning a close one this time.

Cheers, Sal
