FEARLESS 2015 RD 11: Here cometh the bye…TV deal badly exposed on Sundays
The Cats flew to Adelaide with a plan to take on Port. And it worked. Double teaming is nothing new but Stanley and Blicavs running Port ruck Lobbe into the ground did work well. Coupled with Port’s inability to stop kicking it out on the full and find the corridor and the Cats left with a 23pt win. Wingard 4, Old Man Enright 29 stats.
Club Metricon hosted Fremantle and wet conditions made the ball slippery and may have helped the Sunnyboys stay close to the Dockers for most of the game. Inaccurate kicking didn’t help the Dockers as 6.17 snared a 7pt win. Big Sandilands hit a PB/AFL best 70+ hitouts and helped the Fyfedom to 31 stats and 2 goals.
Essendon travelled to Perth to tackle the Eagles without a recognised ruck. Nic Nat Noo relished novice opposition in Carlisle to get 43 hitouts and Callum Sinclair’s 30 steered the Eagles’ mids to set up a 50pt win. Le Cras kicked 4. Good to see ex-Giant Edwards get a run for the Bombers and Fantasia get some stats. Bombers need pace.
North hosted Sydney at Etihad and played well for 70% of the game. When a loss is by 16pts and you allow the opposition to kick 5 unanswered goals in a quarter it is costly especially against a side the calibre of the Swans. Added to many turnovers, the Roos coulda shoulda woulda but all too familiar. Buddy 3,Goodes’ cameo with 3.
A few Giants fell off the beanstalk as an impressive first 2.5 qtrs against the Magpies at the MCG. Enter the Cloke-monster to ragdoll lesser defenders after GWS skipper Davis went down as did fellow back Patfull and ball magnet Coniglio. The Pies put on the afterburners in the last to win by 7 goals. Cloke 5, McCarthy 4. Taylor Adams 36.
The eternal battle between Saints and Demons saw a miraculous last qtr where nobody could goal until Jeremy Howe put the Demons in front with 42 secs left. Senior players from both teams said they thought there was a few minutes to go. Demons will regret allowing Joey space to kick the winner 19 secs to go. Saints 2pts.
