Round 1 – St Kilda v GWS: Emotional Situations

Sunday, 5 April 2015

1:10 pm (AEST; 12:10 pm my time)

Docklands Stadium, Melbourne

Last year, St Kilda won over GWS in Round 2. At the time, I was not able to celebrate myself a lot because I was very upset how I had been treated on that day.

Yesterday, I was shocked and went into a panic due to how I handled a tour group at work.

Today, I was told that I would work next Saturday instead of getting a day off (at first it would be my day off), so I will miss an opportunity to go to a pub in Osaka to watch my footy against Gold Coast.

For me, something unusual seems to happen around games between the mighty Saints and the latest footy club, GWS.

I tried to finish up cleaning by the first bounce but was not able to do so.

Tuning in SEN through AFL app, St Kilda started well and I was happy. But then GWS took a lead.

Cleaning was over before the second quarter. It was time to be with St Kilda. But my passion was not delivered well to my boys. However I heard names of St Kilda players, especially Adam Schneider.

We trailed by 19 points at halftime. I went out for lunch at a nearby Japanese fast-food restaurant.

Just before finishing my lunch, I heard the siren. Walking back to home (actually the accommodation I am working for), the game was played forwards and backwards.

As I had been tired, I laid down to listen to footy. At the last quarter, I fell asleep and felt shame and guilty and the live stream was gone. Tuning in again, but at last I heard the final siren and it was over.

In the evening, I listened to the Fremantle vs. Port Adelaide game and then Final Siren on SEN. Luckily North Melbourne was the hot topic on the program.

Finally I watched the match highlight on the club app. Tim Membrey kicked brilliant goals and Adam Schneider did very well. I was impressed with Nick Riewoldt’s great mark and banana kick. Eli Templeton’s high mark was awesome.

I wish all our boys have such skills and be motivated in Round 2 against Gold Coast.

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

Love, passion and pride are seen on the footy that is the biggest part of my life. 1. St Kilda Club member: I am a passionate and crazy Sainter. Just hope we will win the second flag soon, especially after Dogs and Tigers having ended long premiership draughts. 2. The Osaka Dingoes Player and Public Relations Officer: Player number 44 that I chose to honour Stephen Milne with my wish being like a small forward like him. Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Writing: Here on the Almanac and also on the World Footy News. My skills utilise on great footy websites.

  1. Yvette Wroby says

Hi Yoshi, you probably heard the worst of the four quarters. You can buy ($180USD) the AFL right to watch all the games, so it may be something to aim for in the future. Here you can watch any game at any time, and at the same time as they are being played. It was an interesting games, the crowd sure got heated up in the second half when it looked like we might steal it. But GWS were stronger, more accurate and more composed at the end. We can only wait and be patient.

Looking forward to being in Gold Coast next week.

    Be well

  2. John Zito says

Well done Yoshi on your passion for the Saints. It’s going to take a while, but there is hope. I find when my team, the mighty bluebaggers are having a bad patch, which has been a regular occurrence for over 10 years now, I pull out my DVDs of past glories and give them a good going over. The grand finals of 70, 72, 79 and 95 as well as the 99 preliminary final are very therapeutic in depressing times. Good luck with your wish to see Nick Reiwoldt play. He is a mighty player and even a mightier human being.

  3. Stephanie Holt says

    Ah, Yoshi.

Shame and guilt. Common footy emotions! But the passion is what counts, isn’t it. Sometimes we just have to pinch ourselves and admit, perhaps the boys wouldn’t have played any differently no matter what we did.

  4. Neil Anderson says

I always feel that unless I concentrate listening to the radio or watching TV when the match starts, it will go badly for my team. As soon as I turn away or get distracted for a while, the opposition always seems to slam on a few goals. Totally irrational and illogical behavior of course, but such is the lot of a die-hard Aussie- rules supporter.
Yoshi, you will only be in true harmony if you can find work in Melbourne and attend the St Kilda matches live. They need you now more than ever.

  5. Hi Yvette, John, Stephanie and Neil,

Thanks for all your comments and sorry for the late respond.

Yvette – I thought that we would steal the game at the last half and imagine spectators (St Kilda fans) were excited. Awe what a shame, but I agree with you that we need to be patient. Thanks for mentioning about the AFL live coverage package. Be well to you too.

John – It is a shame to hear about what your beloved Carlton has been facing. In my opinion, the board needs to be patient. I do not understand why Brett Ratten was sacked in 2012. Also recruitment needs to be improved. I guess that the new list manager Stephen Silvagni is doing a good job. If I were a Carlton fan, I would want to see Ratten and SOS working together.

Stephanie – I am shame and feel guilty because I could not focus on my game. I wish my passion was stronger than my physical conditions. However it cannot be controlled. Haha, we do not have any magic to make our boys to play better.

Neil – Your experience applied to me when I followed baseball a lot in the past. But this year I decided to listen to or watch entire St Kilda games to show my loyalty to the club. Congratulations on Bulldogs’ win on Saturday, I listened to the part of the game at work, but had to switch off as my boss came to the workplace. I am sure your beloved Doggies are improving this year. Thanks for mentioning me how Melburnians would welcome me. Maybe I need to go out with a Melbourne woman to allow me to work in Australia?

I hope you all are having a good week.
