NAB Challenge 2015 – St Kilda v Hawthorn: Tough Roads

Thursday, 19 March 2015.
7.10 pm (AEDT; 5.10 pm my time)
Docklands Stadium, Melbourne

Recently we have had similar situation to which the mighty Saints had in 2011. Our young female Ross Lyon came to our accommodation to have a terminal interview. When they left here, it was over 5.10 pm and I realised that footy was on.

As we were allowed to play music at work (a guest house), I tuned in to SEN’s live coverage through AFL App even though I was on duty.

But I only heard names of Hawthorn players. Where were our boys?

Even I had heard that Cyril Rioli would play the pre-season match, I was surprised to hear his name. But hearing the Hawthorn’s chicken wing (my inner nickname for Rioli) scoring a goal was not surprising.

The first quarter was a nightmare for us as we scored no goal.

At the second quarter, Montagna kept a ball for 100 metres that was good. However later I heard that he was injured, sadly.

Finally we wake up and Weller and McCartin scored a goal each. But the margin was so big.

Siren for the half time sounded. I turned off SEN on my Android.

New guests who had left their luggage arrived and check in was processed. They are lovely female guests.

Going back to footy in 20 minutes, I paid more attention to work (however I must point that I was not lazy at the first half; I dealt with bookings with listening to/hearing radio). [Yoshi; in English, we refer to this as multitasking. It is an essential skill to possess while keeping up with sport at work! – Ed].

I heard more St Kilda players and we scored a super goal, but it did not help.

The final margin was 106 points. What a non competitive game. I was very disappointed. I would stop listening to if it played last year. But I would watch or listen to whole game even if we are far behind this year to show my loyalty to the club.

Tough roads are ahead for the Saints. Also I had to and have to deal with selfish people who paid for our guest house. I hope Saturday evening comes quick when I work at our sister accommodation. St Kilda need to learn from the game setting strategies.

But having Paddy McCartin is a good sign for the future.

Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Comments

  1. Saints were never in it Yoshi. The Hawks might do that to a lot of teams this year. We may as well give them the Premiership Cup now.

  2. Yvette Wroby says

Well done Yoshi you may have only listened to a bit of it but you summed up the night perfectly! Enjoy the first goals kicked by Paddy. He had the two man tag that usually is reserved for Nick R! So he did well to shake them off a few times.

    Be well

    Yvette

  3. Paul Young says

Hey Dips, didn’t the Kangaroos beat Hawthorn in the NAB Challenge? Not sure it’s all over, not by a long shot.

The Saints are in for a tough year, no doubt, but there’s still plenty of good genuine contenders for the flag.

  4. Hi Dips, Yvette and Paul,

    Thanks for your comments.

Dips – Yes, we are on the tough road. Hawthorn has been strong and doing well.

Yvette – Thanks for your compliment on what I have done and written. Telling me what I have missed (pictures) would be great. Thanks a lot! It is sad that you watched a defeated game. I wish I could take a winning angle last night.

Paul – I agree. We need to be patient. I am sure we will improve year by year, like when Grant Thomas and Ross Lyon coached us.

    Cheers

    Yoshi

  5. Rick Kane says

    Hi Yoshi

Good read mate. I wouldn’t use that game as a yardstick. First Rd of the season proper is when the clock gets set to zero and it all starts again.

    Cheers

  6. Hi Rick,

Thanks for your comment and yes it is just a pre season match. I hope the mighty Saints will be playing better in the coming home and away season.

    Cheers

    Yoshi

PS Thanks the editor for your English advice!
