Mining young footy talent at Roxby Downs

I’d like to introduce Rob McLean who writes a popular country footy column called Footy People. (Ed)

Rob is an SA based football fanatic who once dreamed of playing in Central District’s first premiership side At 34 and a half, he still believes he could play in a Doggies premiership, but instead is winding up his career with Elizabeth in SAAFL’s C4 grade. His league football idols have been John Platten, Rudi Mandemaker, Chris and James Gowans, Nathan Buckley, Gavin Brown and James Hird. Rob sings the CDFC and Collingwood club songs to his three year old daughter before she goes to sleep at night and is proud to say that she doesn’t have nightmares as a result. Living in Loxton on the beautiful River Murray, Rob is currently the editor of the Riverland Weekly and also contributes a weekly Football People column to www.countryfooty.com.au Writing about the sport at grassroots level is Rob’s biggest football passion.

This week’s Football People yarn takes a look at junior development in Roxby Downs. West Adelaide FC’s Andrew Marks tells of the club’s role in mining young football talent.
