The Footy Almanac welcomes two talented and determined interns who will be with us over the next six months or so: Marina Cerra and Kristian Cavallo.
They carry on a long tradition at the Almanac. Over the years, we have offered internships and other opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Some of these internships have been part of the student’s course, for credit points. Others have been paid positions, which have been funded by various generous Almanac supporters including Peter Stirk, Kevin Densley and Hayden Kelly. (If you would like to support an intern, please let us know.)
Many of our interns have gone on to positions in their chosen field – especially sports and general media, communications, and also in academic life.
Marina Cerra is a recent university graduate with a passion for writing. While making her way as a freelance contributor, she also works as a legal and medical receptionist. Her interests include theatre, film and live events. With a degree in Creative Arts, Marina tells us she’s excited to put her skills to use at The Footy Almanac. When she isn’t writing, Marina enjoys listening to music and playing with her dog. Marina will be writing a series of reviews for us, as well as developing her skills as an editor. In particular, she will look after Thursdays here at the Almanac, while Ian Hauser and partner enjoy a month in Japan.
We hope we can help Marina build the experience that will help her find a full-time role in the literary world.
Her first Almanac piece is a review of Mercy, a film which considers the place of AI in contemporary life.

Once Kristian Cavallo gets his first semester assignments out of the way, he’ll join us as an editor and admin supporter at The Footy Almanac. A third year, Bachelor of Media and Communications student majoring in sports media, Kristian has already written half a dozen match reports for us. He is, in his own words, a Western Bulldogs fanatic. He enjoys a wide variety of sports including cricket, rugby league and the world game. Outside of writing he plods along in the back pocket for his local footy team, Coburg Districts FC, and enjoys playing cricket at his childhood club, West Coburg St Andrew’s Redbacks, with his mates.
We’ll keep an eye on the fortunes of Coburg Districts, Kristian.
