Importance of NAB Challenge Cup for the Saints

For the last two days, speculation of Essendon’s boycotting the NAB Challenge Cup and St Kilda seeking AFL the certainly of the match against the Bombers go ahead are what I have been hearing on SEN (Evenings with Finey and Morning Glory).

As sensitive issues, I will not discuss Essendon’s supplement saga, but I would like to express my thoughts of the NAB Challenge Cup as a passionate St Kilda supporter.

Straightforward making my point of view, the pre-season series is important for St Kilda.

As a club with a bunch of young blokes, the boys need more experience even though other clubs will rest their top players.

Our talented young players, including Eli Templeton, suffered injuries in the 2014 season, so they will need to keep fit and get used to playing games.

Young Saints joined the four-day boot camp in Canberra to gain leadership skills last year, as well as doing the high performance camp in Queenstown, New Zealand with the more experienced boys.

The NAB Challenge Cup will be a great opportunity to practice developing leadership skills as I guess veteran players will be rested, including our skipper Nick Riewoldt.

We need the wonderful opportunity to develop the playing group for the future.

Well said Yoshi. A good reminder that the Essendon saga is affecting the rest of the competition.
For Hawthorn, Swans and a few other Clubs,, they couldn’t care less about a pre-season competition. For Saints and Bulldog supporters, we can’t wait to see our new recruits in action, especially these days when every match is televised live on Fox Footy.
In the Bulldogs case, we will be playing Richmond at Whitten Ovlal in Footscray which was our original home-ground until 1997. It just gets better and better after Footscray won the VFL competition in their first year as a stand-alone team based at Whitten Oval.
I hope something can be sorted out for the Saints to play Yoshi, because I understand how keen you are to see season 2015 get underway.

  2. G’day Neil,

Thanks for your comment with a nice compliment.

Your beloved Bulldogs made list changes and have a new coach and captain. The NAB Challenge Cup is important for the Bulldogs, I agree with you. I hope young talented players who played for the VFL side show efforts playing senior footy at the pre-season matches.

    Cheers

    Yoshi
