again
my team loses and yet
this bottle of whisky
the silence
after the siren
at one end
thin moon
another year slides
down the drain
season ending defeat
again this year spring
won’t come
sun pokes through cloud
the commentator says:
“Daicos”
approaching dusk
a chain of handballs too
leads us nowhere
a game we should have won –
how to explain life
to my kid
About rob scott
Rob Scott (aka Haiku Bob) is a peripatetic haiku poet who calls Victoria Park home. He writes haiku in between teaching whisky and drinking English, or something like that.
The blackbird arrives in the garden
Digging and scratching
The doves bob and coo
Spring has arrived on cue
The Long Dark Summer’s shadows reach out
For all but one; the chosen few
Their boastful glory soon erased
By Plate and Cup heroics
By Mount Panorama drama
By the arrival of The Flannelled To and Froms
What do we tell our kids, Haiku?
We tell them it’s character building
Even though the drawn cork
and peat-smouldering tumbler tell
Of wrenched guts and blinding blinded faith.
HB – Maxwell Smart explained life the best:
“Life”he said, “is like a cumquat.”
Says it all really.
Great stuff, HB.
Superb work Wrap!
Like an Ode to the season-ending defeat.
God I miss September.
