sunny afternoon
the smooth curve
of a perfect pass
tangled branches join up a passage of play unbroken
away game
our sure passing
other-worldly
one or two clouds
Howe leaps
to swat them away
winter light
for a moment not believing
Blair’s goal
sunlit field
everywhere the ball goes
Cloke marking
waiting for dusk
and our lead
to have gone
