General Footy Writing: President’s Pets were never going to leave the Pies. Trust me!

By Danielle Eid

I wasn’t even out of the school grounds when my Dad called me on my mobile to tell me that Bucks had signed as an assistant at Magpie Land.

I got home, not bothering to eat yet, and jumped onto the site just to make sure that Dad wasn’t pulling my leg. After all he had once pranked me into thinking that Medhurst was leaving.

Yup, he wasn’t joking this time, it’s all over the website.

I am having mixed feelings about the whole situation.

I’m happy because I know my Collingwood boys will be happy. I’m sad because this means that there is no chance of me taking over at Collingwood. And I’m confused.

How did the Prez manage to keep both his men?

Bucks was the most-wanted coach for a few teams and I was almost sure that he would sign with North.  Malthouse is still considered a mastermind, one of the best coaches, and the boys praise him all the time.

I should have known, I mean how could I have been so stupid?

Why would a teacher let one of their favourite students move to another school?

Answer: They wouldn’t!! (Trust me, I have personal experience on this matter.)

Bucks and Mick are the President’s Pets and there is no way he would let them leave the club.

Once, after Bucks got injured and went into the rooms, my Dad said to me: “Ill bet you that Eddie is down in the rooms giving Buckley a massage!”

Turns out Dad was right. (Not exactly in those terms, but still …)

So Mick has signed a two-year contract extension as senior coach,  while Buckley will be an assistant coach in 2010 and 2011, before taking over as the senior coach in 2012.

What a day!

As much as I would LOVE to read more about this moment, I have a pile of homework bigger than Rocca to get through! Oh well, at least I know what I’ll be reading about in my spare time!

  1. Hey Danielle, I just noticed your name is listed twice in Alamackers sidebar. I guess that makes you a two-Eid Collingwood supporter…

Er, that’s the web equivalent of a wardrobe malfunction.

Someone will do something about it.

  3. Lucky it didn’t happen at the Superbowl, Daff.

The big question though at the end of the day is will it result in a Collingwood flag any time soon?

  5. The only redeeming feature I can see about a Collingwood flag this year is that it will give us 7 premiers in 7 years, a new record.

Danielle, your dad sounds a lot like my mum. During school, whenever something big happens in footy, she texts me telling me the news. She texted me when Laidley had just quit his coaching role, she texted me when Adam Simpson announced his retirement, she texted me when Buckley said no to North Melbourne and the list goes on. She’s a good source for information :)

    thanks for the comments :)
Josh: yeah i know what you mean, long live sms during classes…..as long as the teachers dont find out that is!

i dont know if a flag this year is going to happen…although i didnt think the Buckley thing was going to happen.
    you never know!! :)
