Footy Theme Songs: Some ‘new’ tunes for the Pies and the Cats

No traditional Finals at the ‘G so lets continue the overall ground breaking theme with alternative club theme songs for this week at the cultural hub that is the ‘Gabba.

For the Cats it’s a smooth transition to Bizet’s Prelude to Carmen on which their club theme song is based, at 2 mins 13 secs.

For the Pies it’s Rossini’s Overture to The Thieving Magpie; at 10 mins 5 secs the Pies fans will be mute as there are no words but they could hum along, as the Pies attempt to defy the experts and steal the Premiership.

Anything is preferable to that dirge which passes as ‘Good Old Collingwood Forever.’

The dictionary definition of dirge, in addition to ‘lament for the dead’ and ‘any mounful song’ is from the Latin imperative dirige = direct, the first word in the Latin antiphon (from Psalm 5:8) in the Matins part of the Catholic Office for the Dead.

Archbishop Mannix, John Wren and Collingwood – the true Holy Trinity.
