Floreat Pica Society: The scientific reason Collingwood will win the flag in 2022

2018 Prediction Prelude:

Greetings all!

As you are aware, The Time Capsule has been forwarded to all for contemplation and completion. This year, I am confining myself to The Woods end of season, ladder position, i.e. Top 4 – specifically, 3rd.

I have based my prediction from a proven, scientific study that, without question, cannot be faulted. This prediction is based solely, and exclusively, on the length of my Collingwood Member’s Scarves – by year (picture attached):

I have measured them all, (note that tassels are NOT included in this measurement) and it will be noted that while generally the width is much the same throughout; lengths vary from 1250mm through to 1750mm.*

As you can all plainly see in the above picture, by far the longest is the 2010 – premiership year – scarf.

Also it will be noted that the 2018 scarf is the next longest at 1650mm.

Hence my firm prediction of 3rd.

We (obviously) can’t win another flag until the marketing department gets their collective act together and issues a member’s scarf at 1750mm.

It is also noteworthy that comparing the “traditional” scarves *– the classic MAGPIES scarf of the ‘70’s and the later ‘80’s VFL logoed MAGPIES scarf – the traditional, classic, ‘70’s scarf – one that has stood the test of time, one that you can still purchase today,  is 1750mm long.

The same as the 2010 Premiership year!

I rest my case.

2022 Prediction:

Noting that in 2018 that against all odds at the beginning of the season that I tipped 3rd, and, had the umpires had’ve been unbiased and fair (what????) we could’ve even won the flag and not unfortunately finished 2nd, I reckon that my method of tipping has real currency.

I firmly predict that, upon the basis of empirical science, we will finish in the top two, and play in the Granny.

(Finally, the marketing department have got their act together!)

Indeed, I am tipping a flag this year.

Note that the 2022 scarf is  1750mm.*

Not since 2010 has the season scarf length been the same as the traditional scarf.

(Note that the only issue that may affect the result is the lack of any tassles. This is probably the wild card.)

*Updated lengths:

2019 – 1535mm

2020 – 1610mm

2021 – 1535mm

  1. Andrew Fithall says

That’s it then. You can’t ignore the science. Now just sit and wait for all those sceptics and naysayers to come out with their rubbish contra arguments which have no basis. Thank-you Frank.

  2. Hate to admit it Frank, but that’s some sound logic.

Would wish you luck for the season ahead, but I don’t think you need it.
