Fearless 2018 Round 6: Through the media haze…the formline emerges…

FEARLESS 2018 RD 6: Through the media haze…the formline emerges…

Western Bulldogs “hosted” co-tenant Carlton at Etihad on Friday night. Avengers Age of Ultron was on another channel. Young Pup Lipinski kicked 3, ex-Blue rookie-turned Pup Gowers 2. Big Blue Levi 2.3, typical of the night, as was Curnow Jnr 1.4…they’re struggling, but Bolton’s Blues will get there. Dogs 21pts. BOG Hulk, Thor, Tony Stark.

Geelong v Sydney at GMHBA Cameron Ling Stadium. Eddie McG called it a famous last qtr for the Swans. And it was. Turning what looked like another Cattery win for the Cats into roadkill, the Swans dismantled the home team in a telling display that proved that Buddy and Hannebery are only 1 player. 7.4 to 1.1 in the last, Swans took flight.

Widely tipped for the bottom 4, North hosted Port with both teams on 3 wins, 2 losses. Typical of the season so far, winning form becomes losing form with Port looking better from the start and were never headed, rising above the emotion of the week. Nullifying a fast start was critical for the Power through Boak, The hoff and Jonas. Port by 33pts.

Brisbane went on a real estate expedition to Western Sydney to find roughly comparable prices. Whilst there they managed to find Brett Deledio and Ryan Griffen returning to form, despite wayward forward accuracy from their teammates 10.17. However, 5.13 didn’t help the Lions win either. Deledio 28, Griffin 21, De Boer 35.

Hawthorn hosted the Saints (their former Tassie cohorts) at U-Tas Stadium on Saturday Night. The Saints had struggled with the weight of expectations so far this year. Losing Riewoldt a big hole to fill metaphorically in the fwd-50 arc. The Hawks were never headed and Tom Mitchell is back to leather poisoning with 45. Chicken Legs Smith 4.

Adelaide hosted the Gold Coast nomads at Adelaide Oval and snap goes Tex’s hamstring. I think it occurred when Ironman was fighting Captain America in Civil War…ahh the Marvel Cinematic Universe! David Swallow might qualify with a Herculean lone hand, 3 goals, 32 stats. Crows by 7 goals at the half and at the end.

Barassi’s Demons put the finishing touches to the 5-year plan by wearing a royal blue jumper and winning over the Bombers by 36 pts. Surprisingly, there was little or no output from Peter Giles, Stephen Smith and the Healy bros. But 31 goes alright as Fritz kicked 3 as did Hannan. Merrett and Zaka got plenty of it but the Bombers nosedived.

The Adam Treloar Cup was played in front of 77k only. Surprisingly! Bucks’ Pies kept pace with the reigning Premiers for 3 and a half quarters before Richmond put on the afterburners to get home by 43pts. Treloar 42, Phillips 38, the Pies were working well. Enter Josh Caddy! No game on Anzac Day. 4 goals, fresh as a daisy. Game over!

The first derby at Perth’s new Optus Stadium took place on Sunday. Double the purple! Fremantle had hosting rights and the Eagles with bragging rights…we own the west…just by 8pts. Freo had the early advantage but the Eagles stole the show after the main break. Darling and Kennedy 3 each. Neale 35, Redden 34, Gaff 32, Blakely 31.
