Crio’s Racing: Oasis Bloom struts Thousand Guineas stage

There’s a really good Thousand Guineas out at Caulfield today but, of more interest to Racing Almanackers, Oasis Bloom struts his stuff in a Listed race (MR7, No2, 1600m)….”be told!”
Thus we’d better have a quick look at the Quaddy and access some of Saturday’s “readies” in the hope of building a bank.
Let’s look for some value from the start (MR5, 1200m, Listed) by throwing in Flat Chat (4) fresh @ 25/1 and also the blinkers 1st time/ Impaler “watch”, Petman (8) @ 10/1. I select Peter Snowden’s FreeWheeling (2) as the best of the fancied runners –Hugh Bowman is a gun hoop.
The Thousand Guineas (MR6, 1600m, G1, Fillies) is wide open. I’d properly hitched my wagon on to last minute withdrawal Dazzler (including ante-post – Ouch!) so am left without a selection. Include 9, 11 and a whim.
Oasis Bloom obviously carries all our investments over in to the final leg (MR8, 2000m) in which Menados (2) will need to overcome a poor gate and a sneaking “muncher” reputation in what does look a suitable race. I still reckon he’ll find one better – Practiced (10), another who has not quite found the photographer at the last two runs. Save on 3 and 5 if you are alive.
Good luck if you are having a try.
We’ll have a forum for Saturday up by Thursday.

  1. Obviously Spirit Song’s great second in the Toorak has franked Oasis Bloom’s form. Just wondering whether she might be looking for more ground now and be better suited next start over 2000m at Flemington. I also reckon she goes best when she isn’t ridden cute. She needs to be away from the fence and wind up and then she just keeps coming- can’t be saved for a quick sprint. Having made all those excuses, she probably should be too good for this field.

  2. Crio,

Like Onthelookout” in the Quaddy first leg. Interstate trainers bringing horses over for minor races on a major race card appeal to me.

He has extremely good recent form around some smart ones and goes very well second up.

With Obee looking a standout in the third leg, I am going to plonk Zydeco, Longport, and Big Chill in the Guineas. Will go wide in the last also, though I will probably throw in a baby one with Menados one out.

  3. I think Mama’s Choice is worth throwing into your multiples at huge odds.
D Dunn has a fair record at the track.

  4. David Downer says

Stella Lante out to $32 on Betfair. Will have some of mine.

Also Love For Ransom at around $10.

  5. Commanding Jewel worth plenty now!!

  6. David Downer says

    And trainers ringing Ollie again!

“Well, looks as though he’s handling it all ok…”

Stella Lante stiff to just miss a place (talking through the kick).

Have taken $3.75 on Oasis Bloom

    Go the Bloom!

  7. David Downer says

Morgan a bit wary pre-race, and she got the blows to $4.90 on Betfair! Trapped wide and did work, will be fitter now after a month’s break and set to go at a more suitable Flemington. Still a good run, leader dictated terms, couldn’t quite get there.

  8. G boss totally outridden. Once he got trapped 3 wide, he needed to be more aggressive. Was never going to win if he let the favourite just roll along as she liked. Excellent run all the same- bring on Flemington.

  9. Bookies have taken a massive hit today.
Villa Verde (R2) lifted an amazing amount of cash from the ring. Flucs lie.

Freewheeling got to incredible odds – plenty of $5 bet.

  10. G boss slaughtered Love For Ransom as well. Hope he’s on his game Saturday. Sneak A Peek was terrific in the Turnbull. Really don’t understand why Nolen is on Lights of Heaven (or why she’s only $9).
