Corowa Racing on a long weekend in June!

Corowa can be a busy place on the weekend of Queen Lizzies birthday. (Wouldn’t it be nice if the weekend was to celebrate a great Australian, like Frank Hardy or Cathy Freeman !!!) Across the river there is the winery walkabout in Rutherglen and Wahgunya,  at the John Foord oval the Corowa-Rutheglen Kangaroos are in action versus the visiting Wodonga Raiders, with of course there being the traditional race meeting on track as another feature of the long weekend in this border town.

The 5 race, non-TAB started at 13-25, or 1-25 in most almanacers language. It was a maiden over

One more meeting in Corowa this racing season; be there or be ….

Glen!

  1. The Great days of Prince Tone and Sir Knight carving it up for Richard Freyer. Prince Tone won on Black Opal Day at Canberra the day after Hawkie won – really, after Fraser lost, Sir Knight’s 33-1 win midweek at Flemington in late 95 fed us for a week. Corowa horses rock, it remains a national disgrace what happened to Leica Falcon : (

  2. Sorry I accidently submitted this story, long, long before it was ready. Yes, what can I say when I hit send not save !!!

Peter the Freyer stable has really struggled the last few years. Richard has been crook, the son Rick has done most of the hard work. One winner in 18 months, the jumper Platinum Snip, at Sandown May 2014. In the Field, Barrakee, Prince Tone, Personal Image, Comedy Snip, , Glowhirl, all great Corowa horses; the Freyer family have a proud history

Saturday was a 5 race non TAB meeting, on a crisp , wintry day. The horses running, you won’t see any of them saluting at Albury or Seymour, let alone in the big smoke.

Highlights of our day. In the opening race a maiden over four and a half furlongs the unplaced toppie Magical Musician came down from Kembla Grange. On a day when there were races at Kembla Grange why would you travel hundreds of K’s south to have a horse run unplaced in a maiden ?!? As it was the winner of that race, Vina Del Mar, made a big journey from Goulburn: at least he won !

Next Corowa meeting Tuesday July 7. We’ll be there.

    Glen!
