“Going to the ‘Bool?”
That’s been the question most asked on Melbourne’s racecourses this week.
I’m pleased to have been able to answer “Yes”.
It is always a landmark week. Great atmosphere. Wonderful drama. Terrific company.
There’s even an extra touch of spice now as Randwick’s All-Aged drama is set to invade the Western Districts with Robbie and Gai Waterhouse confirmed as attendees – Robbie, presumably, running young Tom’s stand for the Carnival.
The city media will prey (pray?) for some angle to discredit the jumps but, for those down at the ‘Bool, the ghouls are irrelevant.
It will be another fantastic week. Get there.
Be assured the Indian Summer will end to coincide with the Carnival. Pack a beanie. Buy a stubby holder.
I’ll be at my post on the Members’ side of the David McLauchlan stand during the day and on a stool in the public bar at the Star Of The West each evening.
Come up and say g’day.
Who’s “going to the ‘Bool”?
Hi Crio,
I’ll be there Wednesday and Thursday.
It’s a fantastic event.
The Dogs, whilst beaten, showed a bit of pluck for you last night. I saw two blokes I’d like to see more of: J Stringer and Johannison.
Good luck to anyone making the trip.
The Gai show now has slightly more spice to it.

The Bool is ready for any knacker invasion especially Bulldog supporters after the best Doggie effort for ages last night.
Do you mean Star of the West in Port Fairy to meet fellow knackers?
Yeah, Neil.
Can’t go the pace of Warrnambool pubs and manage to work as well…. find that the Star at Pt Fairy is a good place for post-mortems. They run a bus to and from the racetrack also.
By the way, any Knackers need a lift down on Tuesday morning.
Leaving Flemington 7ish.
Duties may include marking the scratchings, compiling the Quaddy and changing CDs.
Coffe is white plus 2 please.
Might join you for a couple Wednesday night crio at the Star (my local watering hole)

Not going to the gala Warrnambool Dogs?
No crio, not this year. Have spent many a winters night at the showgrounds with a south westerly ‘breeze’ watching the dishlickers. Front bar at the star sounds more enticing.
Good mail is to avoid Colac road… go via Mortlake
No need to go either way – always go ‘the back way’ – take the Hamilton Highway (as you would to go through Mortlake) but take a right at the Camperdown-Foxhow road that takes you past Lake Corangamite and hooks you up on the Princess Highway just after Camperdown.
Correct C Little.
This is the way to get to the ‘Bool.
I’m going tomorrow with amongst others one N Cole who rode Buxton to victory in 1963.
We’re going to have a couple at the Buxton Bar.
And the Matilda Room after the last.
My favourite two hours of the year.

See tou on course – it has been a big week but, as yet, not profitable.
