One of the game’s great characters. I still remember a day out at Nirranda, in the sheds at half-time, wringing wet with entry-level hypothermia. Red was getting around to each of the players offering them a swig of Stones to take off the chill. Right then I thought, “I love this club”.
Red started as a student at Warrnambool Institute (predecessor of Deakin at Warrnambool) in 1983, the same year I started as a librarian there. I remember Chris hanging around the library, I don’t actually remember him opening or borrowing any books but he liked talking to people and everybody at the Institute, staff, students, other Sharks in paricular, liked him. Sorry to read about his passing.
I was an overseas student then and “Red” was one of the 42 of us who lived at Sherwood House during our days at WIAE (before Deakin). He was always jovial and fun to be around … Red Rocked … RIP my friend …
What a great guy Red was.
He was unique and I remember him very well at both the footy club as well as Sherwood House.
He tried so hard and I am so sorry to hear we lost him. He touched hundreds of lives with his enthusiasm and never say die attitude.
RIP my friend, your legacy will never be lost .
Your friend
