An Under 9s Coach

From Peter Argent.

After Adelaide’s big win over Brisbane what was incumbent coach Scott Camporeale up to?

No, he wasn’t analysing the West Coast Eagles or pondering whether James Podsiadly should return to AFL ranks after a nine-goal haul in the SANFL!

As he prepares for the biggest two weeks of his short AFL coaching career, on Sunday morning the 40-year-old was coaching the PHOS Camden Phantoms Under 9s in the Metro South Junior Football League carnival.

Darryl Smith, (a 200 games SANFL footballer himself) the junior football co-ordinator at the Phantoms confirmed that despite taking over the role as senior coach of the Crows after one of the most harrowing incidents in the Crows 25-year history, Camporeale has continued his role as the Under 9s coach for Phantoms.

Even the day after his first victory in charge, since the sad passing of Phil Walsh, he was on the job as mentor to the PHOS Camden Under 9s.

Camporeale, that lad from the SANFL Eagles is a 252-game AFL footballer, 1995 Carlton Premiership player and 2000 All Australian selection.

He has a five wins, two loss record currently and is six premiership points (one and a half games) in front of the ninth placed Geelong, the team they play in round 23 at Simonds Stadium.

They can seal their finals berth with a victory of Sunday, August 30 with a win over West Coast.
