Prop in the Canefields
Prop in the Canefield has had plenty to say this year, with bold early Top 8 predictions and weekly tips. Well, he has just done his authority the world of good because he’s won the Fotty Almanac NRL Tipping Competition with a score of 131.
He wins $150 and an Almanac membership for 2025.
Good darts, Prop. How did you do it?
The Reverend Paul Bauer, perhaps the best-performed tipster across all comps at the Almanac finished second on 130. He wins $50 and a membership. His parishioners in Bendigo will be thrilled for him.
Looking forward to the finals. So, Prop, are any of the teams fifth-eighth a chance of making it through to a prelim?

Congrats, Prop! I’m still shaking my head given the degree of difficulty provided by the Sharks this season. Enjoy the proceeds!
Well played Prop. You remain the Almanac’s best-credentialed prop, best-credentialed forward, best-credentialed rugba leeg player, best-credentialed protector of the game’s folklore.
However, when the Bunnies get straightened up by Dirty Harry Bennett, RITV will be there when the whips are cracking.
Note to self: remember that the NRL has a game every Thursday.
Second note to self: Wanting to barrack for the Phins while watching the final match is no reason to tip them.
I’m waiting for a detailed analysis of the outcome of your pre-season Top 8 predictions.
Well done Prop! My analysis of footy tipping over the years is that if you can get 5 out of 8 each week, you do well. This season seemed to have a few more surprises & upsets than usual, so 5 out of 8 (or a 62.5% success rate) would be enough to lead the pack.
Your 131 correct tips out of 204 games played gives a 64.21% success rate – so a well deserved win in the tipping comp.
