Almanac Teams: Arrivals and Departures (Fitzroy)

For this year’s football teams I have gone back to a theme: a team of Arrivals and Departures at each club. I hope the teams go down well.

The criteria for each team

  • Based each team of players from 1980 onwards;
  • Have tried to put a player in from each of the remaining 18 teams, including Fitzroy on most occasions;
  • Have tried to be as balanced as possible, though the interchange regardless of balance will be next best 4 players;
  • The player is based on from previous club and to immediate next club;
  • Stats are based on the club and for arrivals, the immediate club before and for departures, the immediate club after;
  • The Arrivals team is based on the performance at the club, while departures is based on the performance at their new club.

If I’ve missed anyone, please advise, and please enjoy.

Sadly, for Fitzroy the Departures team is very strong compared to the Arrivals team.

  1. Some interesting names here Rodney, especially in the arrivals.

    I forgot Warwick Irwin returned to Fitzroy, the year prior to coaching Port Melbourne. There are others I can’t recall playing for the Roy’s, players such as Paul Abbott, Mark Scott, Larry Watson, & John Cassin.

    It’s hard believing some chaps played more games at Fitzroy, than elsewhere. Leigh Carlson, Mark Athorn, & Michael Reeves for example.

    It’s a well put together team Rodney; Good Job.

    Glen!

  2. Thanks Glen

    I think Irwi did a knee at Collingwood and missed 12 months and was picked up again by Fitzroy.

    Larry Watson I saw on 1980s VFL post on Facebook won reserves best & fairest in 1980
