Almanac Teams: 100 gamers at two clubs

West Coast’s Chris Judd [Source: Author]
This week’s side is based on players that have played 100 games for two different teams.
Players from the team below to captain two clubs is Chris Judd. Those who won a Brownlow medal at both clubs a Gary Ablett, Chris Judd, and Greg Williams. Premiership winners: Shaun Burgoyne, Darren Jarman, and Gavin Wanganeen, and Grand Finalists are Lance Franklin, Robert Scott, Heath Shaw, Earl Spalding, and Darryl Wakelin.
All Australians at both clubs are Gary Ablett, Peter Bell, Patrick Dangerfield, Lance Franklin, Fraser Gehrig, Darren Jarman, Chris Judd, and Gavin Wanganeen, while Best & Fairest winners are Gary Ablett, Peter Bell, Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Dempsey, Chris Judd, Tony McGuinness and Bernie Vince. Greg Williams won a Best & Fairest at Carlton and Geelong, but not Sydney.
Franklin has won Coleman Medals while at each club; Gary Ablett, Eddie Betts, Lance Franklin, Fraser Gehrig, Alistair Lynch, Bernie Quinlan and Saverio Rocca have been leading goalkickers.
Players that had sons join one of their teams as a Father-Son selection are David Cloke, Anthony Daniher, Russell Greene, Dean Rice, Barry Round and Robert Scott. John Blakey’s son Nick declined to play for Brisbane and North Melbourne and chose Sydney as an Academy pick.
Some extra points:
- While Lynch made his name as a forward, he started his career as a defender. I do like Lynch being close to Wakelin after what happened in 2004 Grand Final.
- While Fitzroy’s AFL presence merged with Brisbane’s, Lynch was traded prior to this so I have counted them as different entities.
- All Australian is based on from 1991, I have not included All Australian selection from state matches or Team of the Year selections.

Top side Rodney, though I might quibble about some of the positions players are filling.
Now , do we/can we have a side of players who have kicked 100 + goals at two clubs?
Yes , there might not be a large amount of regular defenders with those figures, though options are there. There’s a few chaps in your side who could be at home as much forward as in defence.
Anyhow, just saying.
Glen!
Geez fair side ! Any side that can have G Dempsey on the pine is v v strong thank you
Thanks Glen will have a dip at the goalkickers next week.
Did have a look at AFL tables and think can musker up a defence.
Dempsey, Round, Salmon were all hard ruck choices Malcolm. Though all spots were hard can understand if people disagree on position
That is a team full of superstars.
I’m still filthy that Grumpy Mick let Sav Rocca and Paul Williams go, two of my absolute favourites.
I reckon this would go close to one of your strongest sides so far, Rodney.
My Dons supporter brother wasn’t entirely into the big fish being an emergency, haha. But like you said in an earlier comment, hard choice to make between the rucks!
Luke – I think Williams was stale or released by Collingwood due to his salary. I think he came on for heavy criticism from Peter Daicos for his efforts in 1999. He was traded for picks which ended up being traded for James Clement and Brodie Holland.
Unsure if Rocca was injured as played 12 games 33 goals and 12 games for 27 in 2000 and then delisted.
Thanks Jarrod pretty easy to have a good side when all have played 200 games
