Almanac Stories: Anson Cameron wins The Great Australian Yarn Competition
Congratulations to a wonderful friend of the Footy Almanac Anson Cameron with his win in The Best Australian Yarn Competition for his short story Vanilla … then Cinnamon. The win earns Anson $50k prize money and the opportunity to ‘buy him time to write more’.
Anson is the great-great-great grandson of Joseph Furphy, widely regarded as the father of the Australian novel. He is also a judge for the Furphy Literary Awards.
Another respected member of the Footy Almanac community Trevor Blainey is in the progress of adapting Anson’s novel The Last Pulse into a film. Production is planned to commence next year. Keep an eye out for it.

Congratulations ajc. Outstanding effort. You could spend the winnings on wine and food and fun then waste the rest.
Good luck with the movie project. Loooking for a lead role player??
Coingrats, Anson.
Very well played indeed!
Awesome news congrats Anson ! JTH giving Balmey and Anson a lift back to town after lunch at Tanunda was interesting and educational to say the least
Well played Anson, BOG.
Excellent news.
Terrific result, ajc. Hats off.
Thanks all. I walked back to my hotel at midnight through Perth’s CBD with my novelty cheque being heckled by drunk FIFO miners. Because it said Great Oz Yarn on it one of them asked what I did with the yarn… knit a cardigan for my boyfriend? Not too shabby at midnight.
Dips, I think Trevor is looking for a Hugh Jackman type. So stay close to your phone. Or… don’t. Whatever.
