For all the trials and tribulations of rugby relations between Australia and New Zealand over the years, let the history books note that the two undefeated teams after four rounds of Super Rugby Pacific are on THIS side of the ditch. The fact we haven’t played any NZ teams yet is moot, let’s rejoice while we can.

The BRUMBIES easily accounted for the REBELS while the REDS had to dig deep to overcome a spirited DRUA outfit that has been a great addition to the competition. The top of the table clash in Canberra on Friday will leave one undefeated team going into Round 6.

The other local fixture was the Sunday afternoon clash between the WARATAHS and the FORCE. The error-ridden first half was forgettable but the game came alive in the second 40. Both sides showcased dazzling backline moves for the Leichhardt faithful. The visitors stayed in the contest right to the death and were rewarded with a post-siren penalty goal that secured them a bonus point.

In New Zealand, MOANA PASIFIKA’s troubles continue with another game postponed. It’s going to be hard to backfill three games.

The other two games produced great rugby. The CRUSADERS suffered a rare loss to a CHIEFS outfit that rattled their cages every chance they got and thoroughly deserved to snatch it late.

The ‘snatching it late’ specialists were at it again in the other game. The BLUES looked like coughing up another one against the HIGHLANDERS when the Dunedin lads rallied when all looked lost. These exciting finishes we have seen in the NZ games have been mind-blowing and just so enjoyable to watch.

Can’t go without noting the English lost to the Irish at Twickenham in the Six Nations (you little ripper!!!). France’s scrappy win over a resilient Wales ensures it’s a two-horse race to the finish line next weekend. Both tricolours have had great campaigns and either would be worthy winners.
