Last week, former diplomat Stephen Brancatisano penned an opinion piece in The Sydney Morning Herald conflating the themes of Chinese expansion in the Pacific, rugby league in PNG, and ‘footy diplomacy’ to support the notion of including a team from PNG in the NRL.
