Almanac Racing – “prefer others”

Long-retired players up at “Alex” still chuckle about the legendary ¾ time bake their coach blurted – “I’ve got only one thing to say to youse blokes and that’s nuthin’!”

Trying to get excited at the metrop offerings for this weekend could be read from that thespian’s prayer book. At “HQ”(!) it is weather bleak, fields dreary. If the likely rain comes it might be worthwhile trawling for some swimmers but then you’re putting good money on bad conveyances.

The notional highlight for Australian racing is the Tatt’s Tiara day in Brisbane. Azka (again). Short (again). Justifiably so (again). Not with mine (again).

My annual EOFY wriring pattern appears to be one week of congrats on RV maintaining good stakes and incentives during the winter months followed by a sook at not being up at a sunny track in the north (such as this Saturday’s Derby Cup – how’d they miss on hosting the Derby Derby?! http://www.derbytourism.com.au/tours-and-activities/events/event/86817-west-kimberley-turf-club-derby-cup).

I could copy and paste – above still applies.

So here’s the news from Victorian racing (and wonder why we’re stuffed) – as Michelle Payne contemplates retirement due to consequences of serious falls, D.Nikolic appears set to rejoin the ranks of hoops. How’s that for “ins and outs”? Also, Industry discussion has focused around the workload placed on young jockeys, especially with day and night racing following trackwork – Des O’Keefe seems to be the voice of reason and it is undoubtedly good that such an issue is raised. Meanwhile Sarah Moody’s fronting the Stewards about sarcastic/offensive tweets and let’s see if they’ve got the clout the AFL suddenly discovered to bash North.

Reckon I need the spelling paddock – or maybe a winning weekend. Help!

Good luck.

  1. I’m hearing you, Crio. I tried spelling last week – you won’t lose but you won’t win either. They say you can’t make the same mistake twice because the second time it’s not a mistake, it’s a choice. So tomorrow I am going to back Rock Royalty for the 7th time this preparation. Its form reads 8,8,4,11,5,7. That’s my choice of the day. Happy Punting!

  2. Yep, i’m not too motivated this weekend Crio. One quick Q? How do you rate Leveraction ?

    Glen!

  3. theJudge says:

Will be waiting till Sunday to bet/watch any racing, with the Takarazuka Kinen 2200m G1 being run in Japan.

Fame Game (x Heart’s Cry) is running, along with the current Melb Cup favourite- the 8yo Cheval Grand (xHeart’s Cry) who will be ridden by Tommy Berry.

I’m a huge fan of Duramente, and expect him to be winning at around even money. He’s a beautiful looking stallion, and his Dubai form has been franked with Postponed destroying his rivals in a G1 at Epsom at the start of the month.

  4. I’m brim full of confidence tomorrow, poor standard across the southern states but I like punting on wet tracks.
    Melb. Race 5 Bon Rocket
Melb Race 7 Award for Merit is a special, sorry to deflate the chances of Lereraction Glen but no claim will make it a lot harder and I really like the one on the way up.
Race 8 I’ll butter up on Falgo again
Race 9 If Heart of a Lion goes to Flem it will be hard to beat as he loves the sting out and under those circumstances would be probably the best of the Adelaide winter sprinters and should go close.Odyesey Moon the danger.
Adelaide will be very wet and Eigelstien has a hope in race 5 with 54 Kg on his back, Miss Julia is a nob in the wet and hard to beat with a claim in the 6th
In Briisy if you want to risk Azkadelia then you would want to be on Precious Gem on it’s Straddy run
    good luck

  5. Absolutely love your vibe Jock.
A caution…very little rain at Flemington so far.
Can be very patchy in Melbourne.
Icy night and might get wet tmrw. Wait.
Your push for Chance to Dance goes into the black book from last week. No hope on track bias. Ripper run.
Sounds like Adelaide is a bog?

  6. honestly. we’re only a few miles from the MCG but no rain here!

  7. G’day Jock, I was happy to see Leveraction hold on for second; helped me get an all up place. A win would have been better, that would have got me the running double +.

I put a few dollars on Lady Joolia. Still running !

    Glen!
