Almanac Poetry: ‘Winter Dies Early’ – Tommy Mallet

Winter Dies Early
Winter dies early,
but clear skies lead to
white dawns.
A layer of ice
blanketing my work helmet,
the porch,
hills, tracks, trees.
A world encrusted with
the same uniform stiffness,
of my back.
There’s no time for melting.
Everything needs be broken
before starting the day.
